Working with Planes

How and why to use work planes

A work plane is a Revit element whose function is to serve as a support for creating various types of objects, from 2D shapes used in massing models to walls, floors, ceilings, among others. You can have planes that are parallel, perpendicular, or inclined relative to the program's ground plane.

How to set a work plane

Go to the Architecture tab; in the Work Plane panel, click the Set button.

Name (Name): If you want to set the work plane based on a level, grid, or other reference plane; Pick a plane (Pick a plane): Choose this option to create a plane coincident with another one, which you will select next. Examples of elements you can use to define the work plane include: wall faces, extrusion faces, linked file faces, levels, grids, among others; Pick a line and use the work plane it was sketched in (Pick a line and use the work plane it was sketched in): The reference plane is determined according to the object you select next. Click OK. If you select the "Pick a plane" or "Pick a line and use the work plane it was sketched in" option, click on the face or line that will determine the plane.
