Productivity in Architecture, Engineering, and Design with Tablets and Smartphones

·2 min read
Since the emergence of the first commercial tablet, in 1989, to the present day, a true revolution has taken place in the world of personal computing. If these devices were once viewed with suspicion, today they are everywhere, facilitating communication and affecting relationships between people, including in the workplace. In this talk you'll learn about solutions created for mobile platforms that can help with, and even solve, the day-to-day problems of architecture and design professionals and firms. These solutions can be broken down into five parts, for better understanding: Information gathering: Use of GPS location systems, creating panoramas to document the site where the project will be built, using tools to measure rooms and spaces, as well as identifying colors and textures using digital photos. Design creation and development: Software for visualization and for designing in 2D and 3D, apps for image editing, choosing color palettes, experimenting with textures. File sharing: Exporting and importing files in various formats, for use on desktop computers. Remote Office: Use your tablet to open and control computers over your local network or over the internet. Promoting your work: How to create portfolios of your work and share them on social media, blogs, and other websites related to the world of architecture and design. Our talks count as complementary activities in undergraduate architecture, engineering, and design courses.

Duration: 1 hour Target audience: Architecture and Design students and professionals

João Gaspar – Architect graduated from FAU-USP in 1999, gives numerous talks on BIM, technology, and the use of computing for architecture, engineering, and design. He has more than 14 years of experience in teaching, research, and the creation of educational material, heading TI Lab (a training center specialized in BIM) and ProBooks Editora, both headquartered in São Paulo. TI Lab offers more than 20 training courses, among which the Revit, ArchiCAD, Vectorworks, Rhino, and SketchUp courses stand out. ProBooks is a publishing house that was born out of the production of educational content for TI Lab's courses. Our focus is editing and publishing content related to technology and digital design for architecture and design. ProBooks Editora's portfolio includes, among others, the books ArchiCAD passo a passo, Vectorworks passo a passo, and SketchUp Pro 2013 passo a passo; the latter has been translated into English and Spanish.
