Why Will SketchUp 8 and 2013 No Longer Have Direct Access to the 3D Warehouse?

I want the 3D Warehouse inside my SketchUp!!!!! Starting June 1, 2015, users of SketchUp 8 and 2013 will no longer have direct access (that is, from within the software) to the 3D Warehouse.
The news isn't exactly new, but a lot of people are still confused about it. I've even seen people believing that SketchUp 8 and 2013 will stop working, among other strange theories. Relax, it's nothing like that.
What happens is that these were the last versions of SketchUp produced by Google. Later, the program was sold to Trimble, which is responsible for the 2014 and 2015 versions, and so on.
What happens is that when you use the component search in SketchUp 8 (or 2013), you get routed to the old 3D Warehouse servers (at Google), and then redirected to the new Trimble servers. This was part of a commercial agreement (to support legacy users) that had an end date, and apparently it really did end.
In any case, you can still keep downloading objects from the 3D Warehouse using any browser, like Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, or Safari, as usual!
