The First Meeting – Part II - Main Talks

As soon as ENTAC 2014 ended, I felt very motivated to finally make this blog a reality (about time!), not so much because of the event itself, but because I realized that I had been learning or coming across many cool and new things related to BIM lately, and that the best way not to forget them (and to learn even more) is to write down everything I've learned and share it with anyone interested. As soon as the event was over, I was quite eager to write about everything I had seen, so as not to forget anything that might be important. A month later, of course, I no longer remember everything I saw and learned, and that might not be great; on the other hand, I believe that what stuck in my memory was what actually interested me the most out of everything I attended, and that's what I report below. Opening conference The first presentation at ENTAC was given by professor Will Hughes, from the University of Reading, United Kingdom. Among the various points raised regarding contracting, one of Hughes's most interesting statements, to me, was his belief that there is room for new types of building maintenance contracts, where the service provided is no longer just "changing light bulbs" or "cleaning air-conditioning ducts," but rather something like a "lighting/climate-control/etc. supply service that meets X requirements." [gallery type="rectangular" columns="4" ids="2229,2230,2231,2232"] Also during the opening conference, professor Arto Kiviniemi, from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, gave his talk. The title of the presentation was "BIM - Evolution or revolution in the construction industry?", and in my view, professor Kiviniemi's intent was to show a global overview of the evolution of BIM adoption, using a series of recent and highly relevant statistics, including surprising information about Brazil. Besides presenting this data, the speaker also demonstrated how information flows within highly complex BIM systems, using the English mega-project Crossrail as an example for his explanations.
