Learn the Principles of Lean Construction

Developed between 2004 and 2007 by prof. Dr. Rafael Sacks, from Technion University, in Israel, the Technion LEAPCON Lean Construction Game aims to "test the impact of the proposed Lean management model, which is a response to the waste associated with conventional planning and management methods used in the construction of very tall residential buildings," in the author's own words, translated here by me. There are several studies on the synergy between BIM and Lean. In one of them, researchers David J. Gerber, Burcin Becerik-Gerber and Alex Kunz, in the 2010 paper "Building Information Modeling and Lean Construction: Technology, Methodology and Advances from Practice," state that "BIM will become increasingly essential, becoming a component intrinsically linked to the Lean Construction process, especially within a context where there is an abundance of geometric and semantic information about the project." Building on this premise, prof. Dr. Leonardo Manzione and I, while creating the PC-BIM (BIM Training Program for Companies, a partnership between COORDENAR and TI Lab), decided to include the Lean Construction Game in the training program. The images and videos in this post are from a test game, run with a group of students and invited architects, held in November 2014 at TI Lab, in São Paulo. The test game lasted one hour and forty minutes, and is divided into five videos. Watching the videos, you'll be able to see how effective the game is at comparing the pushed versus pulled construction method.
