Discover Gabster's Free Library of Customizable Made-to-Measure Furniture

Library of dynamic components from Gabster

A few weeks ago, without much fanfare, the Rio Grande do Sul-based developer Gabster, which works with systems for the automated production of made-to-measure, customizable furniture, released the free Gabster LITE plug-in for SketchUp. conheca-a-biblioteca-gratuita-de-moveis-planejados-personalizaveis-da-gabster Gabster LITE gives you access to a huge free library of dynamic components for SketchUp. All of them were modeled according to the standards of the Brazilian furniture industry, which means that when you use a Gabster object, you're using a model that can be manufactured very quickly by several factories across the country. Since the objects are dynamic, you can change dimensions, finish material options, handles, latch types, and other attributes without needing to model or re-model anything. To use Gabster LITE and get free access to the furniture, you need to download the plug-in from the SketchUp Extension Warehouse and sign up on Gabster's website. You'll use the information provided on Gabster's site to access the plug-in window inside SketchUp. conheca-a-biblioteca-gratuita-de-moveis-planejados-personalizaveis-da-gabster We tested the Gabster LITE objects: they're really excellent (although a bit heavy to download the first time you use the system), but they're a real time-saver for anyone who works with made-to-measure furniture. So you might ask: what does a company like this gain by providing, for free, such a huge amount of objects? The answer is simple: if you want to manufacture the Gabster piece of furniture you configured, you can send it to a factory that has the full Gabster system. The full Gabster system (which is a paid product) is able to read the object and automatically extract from it all the information needed for producing and packaging every part required to assemble the piece of furniture. This way, any piece of furniture you've customized with Gabster LITE can be produced industrially (whether once or thousands of times) without any loss of productivity on the manufacturing end. It's the BIM (Building Information Modeling) principle applied to the production side of the Brazilian furniture industry. By using Gabster, a professional who designs made-to-measure furniture (whether working independently or at a custom furniture store, for example) can create whatever pieces they want, with whatever dimensions they think best, according to each client's needs, without this meaning a delay in production or delivery — unlike most current systems, where either the client chooses among a few options to receive the furniture quickly, or requests a custom design that has a long delivery time and a high cost.
